We were privileged to be recognized by SATAKE Thailand as a factory site for a visit by the Indonesian Rice Mill Association, accompanied by Mr. Sutarto Alimoeso, Chairman of BULOG. During our discussions, it came to light that Indonesian farmers typically operate on smaller crop harvesting areas, ranging from 0.5 to 1 acre, in stark contrast to their Thai counterparts who manage much larger expanses, ranging from 5 to 20 acres. A noteworthy revelation emerged during the visit—despite Indonesia’s status as one of the world’s leading rice producers, there exists a need to import additional rice. This surprising fact is attributed to the imperative of maintaining a safety margin for domestic consumption, shedding light on the intricate dynamics of Indonesia’s rice industry.
